Welcome to Enfield Bangladesh Welfare Association (EBWA)

Empowering Communities, Enriching Lives – The Enfield Bangladesh Welfare Association (EBWA) is a community-driven organisation dedicated to enhancing the quality of life for the Bangladeshi and wider communities within the London Borough of Enfield. Our mission is rooted in providing accessible educational, welfare, and social support services—particularly for the elderly, individuals experiencing financial hardship, and those in need of essential community assistance.

Our Core Initiatives

EBWA places a strong emphasis on advancing education and personal development. We operate weekend schools, vocational training sessions, and cultural programmes aimed at engaging young people and the unemployed. These initiatives celebrate Bangladeshi heritage while fostering skills and opportunities for personal and professional growth.

We also provide vital legal support, including advice and translation services, helping individuals navigate statutory and voluntary social services with confidence and clarity.

Poverty alleviation is central to our work. We offer practical support for low-income households and targeted programmes that support the elderly—addressing social isolation and improving wellbeing through regular recreational and fitness activities.

In addition, EBWA promotes health and wellbeing by organising health awareness campaigns, counselling services, and mental and physical health initiatives. We also work closely with local authorities, including the police, to increase legal awareness and support crime prevention within the community.

Our Achievements

Thanks to strong community support and partnerships, we have successfully made several of our projects self-sustaining. These include:

Arabic and Bengali schools

Elderly drop-in and exercise sessions

Women’s training initiatives

Supplementary education programmes

Our Projects

We also launched a cricket project benefiting 25 young people, supported by the local council’s assurance of free access to the cricket pitch at Ponders End Recreation Ground.

Training and Employment Support

Over the past year, we have delivered: First Aid training for 20 individuals. Volunteering training for 10 Bangladeshi women in collaboration with the Adult Learning Centre.

Employability and Childcare Level 1 and 2 courses for 24 Bangladeshi women, supported by the Learning Curve Group—four of whom have since secured permanent employment.

We also provide direct assistance to a large number of individuals who visit our centre for support every week.

Inclusive Community Engagement

Our elderly drop-in project stands out as a symbol of multicultural unity. Over 100 men and women from diverse backgrounds—including Bangladeshi, Pakistani, Indian, Somali, Caribbean, Turkish, and various African communities—have received direct support through this initiative, we provide exercise with trained instructor. We were honoured to welcome Councillor Yasemin Brett, Cabinet Member for Public Health, who praised our work and commitment to inclusivity during her visit.
